Burt’s Bees Ultra Conditioning Lip Balm Review

Burt’s Bees Ultra Conditioning Lip Balm Review

If you have sensitive lips, typically you turn to lip balm to sooth away the discomfort. Even if you don’t have irritation, balm is a great way to keep your lips from getting dry and cracked. Unfortunately, not all lip balms sooth lips, especially when it comes to sensitive ones. Strangely enough, Burt’s Bees, the brand that many people with sensitive lips turn to, is one of the worst offenders.

Most Burt’s Bees products have beeswax, which some are sensitive to, but many use as an alternative to another common irritant – lanolin. The problem is, many of Burt’s Bees lip balms use lanolin too. They also add in ingredients like eucalyptus, menthol, and peppermint oil, which all feel soothing at first, but irritate lips after repeated application.

Yet, for all that, there is one Burt’s Bees product that is worth having the title of “balm”. The Burt’s Bees Ultra-Conditioning Lip Balm is the best choice of lip balm in the brand if you have sensitive lips and aren’t allergic or sensitive to beeswax. (If you are sensitive to beeswax, Burt’s Bees is a pretty obvious brand to avoid.)

Using Kokum butter, coconut oil, beeswax, and soybean oil instead of lanolin and other irritating ingredients, this lip balm lives up to its name by creating a moisture-preserving seal on your lips that lasts. However, it does also use soybean oil, which can be bad for those sensitive to soy.

Yet, if you want to avoid lanolin and fragrant ingredients that irritate your skin when you are trying to sooth it with a lip balm, there are worse choices out there. Burt’s Bees Ultra-Moisturizing Lip Balm lives up to its name by keeping your lips moist while also not irritating those with sensitivities.
